How to Get Started with CDPAP
Medical Assessment
A CFEE evaluator visits your home to assess care needs and determine approved hours (typically 15-50 hours/week).
Apply for Medicaid
Submit Medicaid application with financial documents. If income is over the limit, we'll help set up a Pooled Income Trust.
Choose Your Caregiver
Select your adult child, relative, or trusted friend. They'll complete paperwork and background check.
Set Up Fiscal Intermediary
The FI handles payroll, taxes, and compliance. We connect you with reputable agencies.
Care Begins!
Your chosen caregiver starts providing care. They track hours and get paid bi-weekly via direct deposit.
Common Questions About CDPAP
Can my caregiver work another job too?
Yes! CDPAP is flexible. If you need 25 hours/week, your caregiver can work part-time elsewhere. Many caregivers balance CDPAP with other employment or school.
What if we fight or it doesn't work out?
You can change caregivers anytime—that's the beauty of CDPAP. Switch to a different family member, friend, or even return to traditional agency care if needed.
Can multiple family members share the hours?
Absolutely! If approved for 40 hours/week, you could have your daughter work 25 hours and your son work 15 hours. Both get paid. This is very common.
Will this affect my Social Security or Medicaid?
No. Your benefits remain unchanged. Your caregiver's income is their earned wages and doesn't affect your benefits.
What tasks can my CDPAP caregiver help with?
Personal care (bathing, dressing, toileting), household tasks (cooking, cleaning, shopping), and even skilled nursing tasks (medication administration, wound care) if trained. Much more flexible than traditional aides.
